Our History

The Railway Hotel is the third oldest hotel in Peterborough, having been built in 1891, opening on the 24th December. W Britten, Licensee. The building was described at the time as palatial, with the Copula Tower on the roof being a feature. The hotel has played host to Governors and high ranking officials during its 125 year history. In 1949 a murder/suicide in the hotel was big news at the time.

We all enjoyed our meals here mid week at lunch time on a very damp day in September. The food was really of good quality, well prepared and presented. We'd do it again in a heart beat!

We only ate there, but went back a second time. Good solid pub food with a comfortable laidback service attitude. The food was fairly priced, well cooked and delivered quickly enough. Serve size would be enough for the hungriest person. Clearly a community place with...More

Schnitzel with green peppercorn sauce was one of the best I’ve had. Panko crumb shinty, plus a supreme pizza came in at $36, extremely good value! Ambience is old school charm. Nice bar staff too

Recently used Peterborough as a pit stop on our way to the Flinders Ranges, headed for the Railway Hotel for a traditional Country Pub Counter meal…and that is exactly what we got…the classic prawn cocktails were nostalgically unchanged since the 1970's..6 prawns arranged around the...More
